Ableton IAC MIDI Clock synch problems to internal metronome

Post by aesguerramusic » Sat Oct 03, 2020 12:37 am

iMac Late 2013/ Mac OS 10.14.6/ Live 10.1.18/ Logic Pro X 10.5.1

Here's the strange phenomena I found. While externally synched via MIDI clock, as a slave, Ableton audio playback will fall out of synch with its own internal clock.
1. I am sending "SPP at Play Start Only" MIDI clock from logic, as if Ableton was a regular drum machine.
2. When played from bar 0, ableton audio playback will be in synch with its own metronome, but as soon as I attempt to send clock from any other point in the session, playback will be out of synch but not the metronome.
3. problem is corrects itself when I hit record in logic. Don't know how the MIDI signal changes coming out of logic when recording.
4. The problem is fixed temporarily when the clock delay is adjusted in Logic, but represents itself when jumping to middle of arrangement.
5. Here is the weird bit: both Live's and Logic's metronomes playback in synch, even phase cancellation going on between them, but Ableton's audio is a 1/16th note (exactly too) behind. I use a delay on my monitor return to compensate for the offset sometimes, but it is almost dead on, as dead on as a MIDI clock synched device can be. This tells me there's a problem inside Ableton and not Logic!
