well im on a mac, but im not quite sure if windows is the same...but every program should have a preferences file (usually located within your system folder) that can occasionally get corrupt and apps can act haywire because of this

when you trash the prefs, the app automatically creates a new preference file--thus fixing problems it was suffering from(in most cases for mac anyways)

a windows user who knows more of this should post

WOW IT WORKED ON WINDOWS TOO THANK YOU.

windows users that have live acting super slow:

go to my computer>local disk>documents and setting>user name>

now go to the tool menu>folder options>view tab>and put a bullet next to "show hidden files and folders"

then an application folder will be shown. go there and then go to the ableton folder>then the live folder>preferences> AND DELETE THE PREFERENCES FILE.

thats it, now live should work perfectly.

it will create a new preferences file, and also a file called "undo". i'm not sure what thats for but who cares, live works like a charm now!

nothing happens to your presets. just delete that tiny preferences file and everything will be ok. take a deep breath and do it. just follow the steps i gave in my post above.

Of course, if you're worried deleting the pref's file, you DONT have to delete it. Try moving it to the desktop. If you lose something important, copy it back!

This is good news if it works. Ive been getting performance issues, some havent. so this solution could just be the ticket for those that have had CPU problems.

the performance issues were probably involved with people who beta tested--because apparently the prefs for the old betas messed with prefs of the release. but thats only what ive heard, but it makes sense because i also had a beta. some people didn't try the beta, so they don't have probs. hmmm

Yeah definitely good advice for Mac users. This was the first thing I did after clearing the beta off my sys.

You just save me 10% CPU. I tested Live 5 Beta up to version 18, then installed the 5.01 demo, and was mucking around with a song at 56% CPU. After deleting Preferences I "re-constructed" the same song in 5.01 demo and I'm at 46% CPU. Must have been somethig to do with the Beta?

BTW, Stylus RMX in Kit Mode eats my CPU alive! (P4/3.4Ghz HT and 2GB RAM). :?
