Clips sound different on the same instrument

Post by Please answer this question if you can. » Mon Nov 09, 2020 12:47 am

Hi, I am a newbie, so this might be a dumb question. I use Ableton Live Lite. I am working on a song with 4 instruments. The instruments are of the many provided. One of these is the EP Faceplant. I was using it and had already made a clip. I had made another clip of the same instrument after that and as I was listening to it, I realized that it sounded different than the other clip. By this I mean that even though it was the same instrument, the instrument sounded different on each clip. It was less distorted and quieter on the second clip, which I did not want. I looked at the device view and it was exactly the same as the previous clip, even though it shouldn't be. I also noticed that the color of the second clip was darker than the previous clip.

The same problem that I am posting about right now is something that is happening on all of my instruments, I just used the EP Faceplant as an example as it was the first instrument I noticed sounded different.

Here is a screenshot of the first clip in clip view:

the little red bars at the bottom are velocity controls for the notes, the notes get darker in color the quieter they are. in your first image, they're up by the max value of 127, in your second they're much lower. try selecting some or all of the notes and dragging them up.
