Ryzen 7 4800U Ableton performance ?

Post by davlar » Sun Nov 29, 2020 6:56 pm

Hi,
Was just wondering if anyone had experience/comments using the Rzyen 7 4800U for Ableton work.
This chip is a low-power one (about 25W) and can be found in some laptops or mini-pcs (i.e. ASUS PN50), was just wondering if anyone had run the Ableton Live Performance Test or similar.
Thanks.

I think a 4800U with a decent amount of RAM and an SSD would be a fine production laptop.

I sell engineering CAD software for a living and deal with data sets that are gigabytes in size and run into problems that take a lot of CPU grunt to solve. My work laptop is an i7-8750H and looking at the benchmarks here (https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cp ... 0U&id=3721 the 4800U outperforms my work laptop. The 8750H is a decent CPU, so I think you'd have a decent mobile system with a 4800U. The key is to make sure you have the right supporting hardware to go with it - like an SSD, a decent amount of RAM with the right sort of clockspeed etc.

ok thanks.
Yeah, could get a 1TB M.2 SSD and about 16 GB RAM, the system could be half-decent for it's size.
