Newbie question: Ableton Live Lite 4 limitations? HELP!

Post by kingkongbong » Thu Jul 28, 2005 1:35 am

Greetings fellas,
I'm just about buying a firewire 410 soundcard, I know it has ableton live lite 4, I wonder, what are the specifications/limitations of the lite version? Midi/VST support? How many tracks/sends? how many scenes? Any other limitations I should be aware of? I don't have the money to upgrade to the full version right now, but I would really like to start using it for some serious music making...

I've known ableton live for a long time, and I simply love it...

Thanks! :D

hmmm if i remember correctly,.. in live lite,. you have none of the midi aspects of the program,.. just audio tracks to play with,. and only about half of the effects. still enough to learn the basics tho.

Hmmmm, that doesn't sound good at all...nothing serious can be done if I have no midi then...And I havent found a single document anywhere that states what are the limitations of Live Lite 4...

just from memory, only 1 vst plugin (yes you can do midi)
4 or six audio...
but the greatest thing is a fantastic upgrade path to Live 5!

dude, you gotta try to get the cash to upgrade! sell some trinkets on ebay or something :)

I had live lite 4 and upgraded it for $250 and got a free upgrade to live 5! That's a steal.

I got Live Lite with the m audio Black Box. IIRC, mine would do six tracks (4 audio & 2 midi - def a yes on the midi) and ten scenes. It was limited to 2 VSTs at a time, but you could use them in the Sends. I used it blissfully for a couple of months before realizing that I just couldn't LIVE without Live.
So I paid $500 for some really nice software and they threw in the Black Box is how I look at it. 8)
