renaming files in browser: some analysis files not renamed

not 100% sure whether i'm just messing up something myself or if this is a real bug.

since we have a gig tonight i thought i'd spend part of the day renaming part of my loop library since there were dozens and dozens of pretty undescriptively named files among them.

about halfway through i started checking out the renamed clips to make sure they were alright... and to my surprise, some of them had their analysis / clip data intact and some didn't! upon closer inspection i noticed that when renaming the files in browser, live seems to have renamed SOME of the analysis files and left some their original names.

now i'm in kind of an awkward situation since i COULD rename the analysis files by hand in finder but to tell the truth i don't exactly remember which of the new files used to be which of the old files. so it's either major guesswork or spending lots of time doing the loops and pitch changes by hand again, trying to remember how they were.

using live 5.0.1, the files were all in the same directory and in .wav format.

it's strange that some got renamed, I remember reading somewhere, but can't find where, that .asd are not renamed when you rename a file. This is not new and has always been a drag in previous versions.
Maybe they've changed that in live 5 but if they have it's not working...

hmm it's weird though. maybe the files aren't renamed but the renamed file still has a link to the differently named .asd? who knows.

to tell the truth i had a flu yesterday (and still have a bit) and managed to fuck up lots of things - including the gig which wasn't a catastrophe but still pretty boring - so i wouldn't be surprised at all if i was "tripping" in some way.

however, i'm sure of this: some of the files i renamed retained their loop, volume and transpose settings (that should be in the .asd), some didn't. the exact reason just doesn't seem so clear anymore...

Hi Zion15,

sorry for this delayed answer. I can assure you that the phenomenons you experienced had nothing to do with your flu, and I hope, your gig hadn't been to bad. Indeed there is a problem with renaming sample files under certain conditions:

On Mac .asd-files are not renamed alongside their sample files, when the sample has no type extension (but a valid type attribute). The .asd-file is not deleted, but it keeps it old file name. To make things more complicated, when the sample to be renamed is used in the current live set, immediately after the renaming of the sample file a *new* .asd-file is written, which is of course, a new one, and so does not contain the information of the original one. So for a sample file "CrashBang" with and .asd-file "CrashBang.asd" after the renaming there are three files: "CrashBang 1", "CrashBang 1.asd" and "CrashBang.asd". Simple copying of the old .asd over the new saves the old information.

I'm not sure, how this could have stayed undetected until now, but, yes, it has. This will be fixed in the next update of course.
