Feature Request: Tempo accuracy beyond two decimal places

Post by tristanperich » Mon Sep 06, 2021 2:59 pm

I regularly need tempo accuracy beyond the two decimal places afforded by Live's interface. I understand keeping the interface simple, but it would be helpful to be able to manually enter a more accurate tempo.

Right now the only way to fake this is to add an array of micro tempo adjustments to the Master track to average out to the intended tempo.

(Even changing the value in the XML of the session does not allow overriding it.)

It already goes to 5 or 6 decimal places.

Many (if not all) number boxes in Live go to lower decimal places than visually shown (usually only 2 shown).

You have to type the numbers (like 120.0001)

Just curious. What do you need such accuracy for?

Oooooo is that true? I was certain it's just 2 decimals...

As for "why", I for example frequently arrange along to old recordings (in Apple Logic), and first thing I will do is adjust the project tempo to the song tempo. If it's pre-2000s material you often have a very odd tempo due to being recorded on tape (70s, 80s) or because they were using non-stretching samplers (90s) or because they were just being weird.

So it happens a lot that only when I'm done and have recorded a lot of material I realize the tempo had been set to 127.9241 all along. 😖 When I transfer the whole song to Ableton Live for live performance with the band (including backing tracks and stuff) I don't want to timestretch everything or do a lot of calculations.

Thanks for the hint!
