Problem with quality of Simpler/Sampler

Post by lordragnarok » Tue Apr 05, 2022 1:15 pm

I have noticed that the samplers in Ableton seem to reduce the quality of the sample somewhat. This is especially noticeable with things like 909 hihats. Even after turning off the filter, LFO, and velocity tracking the sound is muddier and has more bass in it and just doesn't sound as crisp as when you just use an audio track. Does anyone else have this problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

If you don't apply processing and play the sample at the original pitch (with the C3 key), the sound should be identical to the original sample.
Are you playing them lower in pitch? Sampler has an interpolation setting, which is relevant when playing the samples at different pitches (especially with lower pitches).

The sample level is often lower when dragged in to sampler, like -12db if i remember.
ctrl + left/right = select transient

ctrl + shift + left/right = select between transients

ctrl + space = play selection

Volume change is a consequence of velocity usually.

Also, the Amp envelope is important.

I think it is just a level reduction.

Also check the sample is not being warped, Simpler defaults to warp mode if I remember correctly.
