Pan Modulation in Ableton (sounds to left and right by pressing notes)
Pan Modulation in Ableton (sounds to left and right by pressing notes)
Whoever uses Diva knows there is a Pan Modulation where u select Alternate and by pressing notes your sound goes right and left. I wonder if there is a way to do this in Ableton for example in Simpler

Re: Pan Modulation in Ableton (sounds to left and right by pressing notes)
Hi @virasco,
I know this feature from Serum too, which is a poly modulation in this synth by the way.
It seems to be not implemented in Simpler, and I can't find it on any other Ableton device for now.
Though, this is a very simple midi trigger that produce 0 and 1 alternation. It would be super easy to build such a modulator device with M4L. Mapped to anything we need, remember that this modulation would be only mono (compared to the poly version of Serum - and also Diva maybe ?).
Have a look on maxforlive.com, I think you could find something like that.
Let us know,
Maxime

Hey ! Thanks for the reply.
I didnt know about it in Serum only in Diva.
Yes unfortunately there is only ran> pan in Simpler.
I was thinking the same to make one cuz there must be a way to trigger this just by pressing any notes.
Just never used max4live before

Do you have M4L ?
Here is a little M4L device I've just build that do the job : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rtnQ-Z ... sp=sharing
In your case, you just have to map it to a "pan" parameter.
Do not hesitate to report any bugs.

I had a look and that is indeed frustrating. Seems the only option is using Sampler, unless you’re taking advantage of Simpler’s unique features.
Even switching to Sampler and then back to Simpler, you can’t hot swap to retain the key and pan feature set up in midi settings. I think when you switch from sampler back to simpler after adding Pan mod, it does some kind of multi sample to add the panning quality.

What modulation do you use in Sampler to achieve this ? midi > key ?
Does it really alternate between full left and full right in the stereo image ?

In Sampler you go to the MIDI tab and set Key to modulate Panorama. Sampler doesn’t have Warp though. That’s the main difference.

Re: Pan Modulation in Ableton (sounds to left and right by pressing notes)
I think this is not exactly what @virasco is looking for. In Sampler, "key" produces values from 0 to 127 (midi note numbers). If you map it to "pan", it will spread all voices in the stereo field, respectively with their associated note number (0 = left / 127 = right / 63 = center). Overhead mics style.
I think @virasco is looking for a modulation which alternate between left and right, with no crossing values.
Or maybe I missed something with this Sampler...
