Session view exclude track from scene?

Post by Tagw » Tue May 03, 2022 12:23 pm

Hey. I have a project where I want to be able to play a movie through Ableton which is synced to the tempo, while working in session view live. Since you can't have a movie playing in session view I've decided to play the movie in arrangement view and then play live in session view, simultaneously. The only problem is that when you use scenes in session view, it stops all tracks that are playing in arrangement view. So is there any way to get Ableton to exclude one track when playing a scene?
Thank you!

Hi @Tagw,

I don't know for such a feature in Ableton.

I think the only solution is M4L. I've build one device two years ago that do this job, I should make it user friendly someday.
Have a look at maxforlive.com, we never know.

Otherwise, if it's only for one single movie, you should maybe just find a parallel app to play this unique file. Furthermore, some can be synced with Ableton by MIDI or other protocols.

Hey! Thank you for your reply. The movie is a series of pictures that are synced to the tempo of the project, and I would like to be able to change the tempo during my performance and have the movie linked to that tempo. Therefore I don't think using an external program to play the video is a good idea. I haven't been able to find a M4L device that's able to do that. How would that even work?

Thank you,

Various video software can be synced with Ableton (BPM, Time Code, etc). Thus, a moving tempo shouldn't be a problem.

Large topic. If you know Max (and Jitter) a bit, I could send you my M4L device to see if you can managed something with it. But it has been built for a very specific purpose, and doesn't provide a speed parameter...

I actually found a fix. If you right click the clip slot, you can select "Remove stop button", and then the track isn't affected by the scene changes on the scene.
Thank you for your help:)

Was about to suggest this.
Maybe duplicating the clip and set it to Legato would work on a video clip ?
