Couple of quick Q;s

Post by craigc » Thu Jul 14, 2022 12:18 am

Howdy Y'all,

Couple of quick questions:

Q1. When I record vocals in live (currently on 11 but same issues in 10) I find the input volume is extremely low and I have to assign a utility to the track to crank it up. I have an Axe I/O audio interface as well as a Focusrite 2i2 and have had same results. I'm using an old Yamaha passive studio Mic that I know is good and doesn't need phantom (yes I tried enabling phantom power and it does nothing) so wondering what the options are here. I'm a novice at recording into Live.

Q2. From a mastering/mixdown perspective, If I cut an audio clip vs. crushing the volume to zero via automation, is one better than the other relative to quality (eg no clicks etc.)?

Gracias!

Can you rephrase Q2? Not sure I understand the question, sorry.

For example: I have a midi track with a clip that goes for 3 minutes. If I split the clip and cut the chunk I want out (for a rest/pause) creating silence for 3 seconds; would it be better to just use automation to slide it to 0 then bump it to previous level after the silent interval?
I'm curious from a mixdown/rendering perspective: will I get cleaner results with 1 versus another?
