What's your buffer size?
128smpl is the best setting for m1 machines.

Re: Ableton Eating Too Much Cpu On M1 Mac
So I have the same problem, i recently update to Montrey, and suddenly my cpu use is over 100 % not playing any audio its hovering between 58-60% i have never really had problems like this before. the piece i am mixing i was working on prior to the update and all of it was working swimmingly. i did the update, now cpu s pegged, and the audio is distorted and dropping out ( though if i render it it seems to be fine) i even have been automating on off on devices when not in use and that doesn't seem to help even without running major plugins i have the same problems. so any suggestions or advice would be helpful.
i did lower my buffer to 128 as i saw mentioned but it had almost no effect

and i just tried the intel only version, might actually be worse. its crazy too because the track that i am on is 9 channels and under 5 min, and even shutting off all my plugs its still crapping out
Re: Ableton Eating Too Much Cpu On M1 Mac
Since you're on Monterey you should use the Universal build.
128smpl is most of the time the best setting for m1 macs, but on your older one you might want to raise it to e.g 256.
Maybe updating to Monterey wasn't a good idea? Before trying to go back to big sur, you could try reseting Live, and get in touch with Support if that doesn't help.

It forces the CPU out of high-efficiency mode, which means more cores are active for processing your DAW.

So I like the world where a machine I bought 3 years ago is a super old machine, I guess I need to buy a new machine every year then to keep up with ableton? Cause the thing is. All my super cp crunch adobe video stuff works as fast as ever. Even a bit better actually. Sorry that was kind of… well was pretty snarky but it’s just not that old a machine and Mac encouraged the update. And this problem seems to only be in ableton.
That said I did a reset which killed about 20 hours of automation. Highly not recommend. But I think part of the problem was plugins. In that waves. Will run non 14 plug-ins. But it will be a hideous mess. And ableton doesn’t seem to want to olay nice with my vst3’s The weird thing is the render works fine and sounds great glitch free, and the cou isn’t overloaded exporting same it’s only while working. It got better with the reset but it still not workable in any live situations. I also tried without any third party plugs and it gets problems with just raw audio files. So it’s a stumper for certain
