I’ve succeeded in recording parameter changes on an external synth in Live 11’s clip envelopes for the respective MIDI CCs being modulated on the hardware synth. The synth I’m using also happens to have a dedicated editor which can be used as a plugin (which I am doing). In this editor plugin, all of the synth’s parameters can be mapped to the physical knobs manually (suppose the controls on the hardware are 1-1 knob per function- which isn’t true, but otherwise the button used as the shift function to access extra parameters will be recorded as unwanted automaton).
Are these two different ways of accomplishing the same feat? I only have track in/out MIDI ports enabled for the synth in the preferences tab, so they both seem to be track MIDI functions. One is obviously more work than the other- but I’m just curious if these are two ways to achieve an identical result?

Re: MIDI Ctrl envelope automation vs MIDI map mode automation
The software editor is very likely to be sending those same CCs to the synth, so yes, it's two ways of doing the same thing.
