new loop markers annoyance: forget it, i'm dumb

Post by peeddrroo » Mon Aug 01, 2005 8:56 pm

i guess it takes time to get used to these new clip markers. but here is a case where it doesn't feel natural at all:
in arrangement, select a small part of a long clip and drag it somewhere else, so that you'll have your clip start and end markers somewhere and your deactivated loop somewhere else.
now if you switch the loop button on, you loose the start marker position, as it will go at the beginning of the loop, wherever it was. what you have to do is move the loop start point PRIOR to activating the loop switch.

say if what you isolated was the snare of a drum loop, just switching the loop button On might transform it into a kick, or a crash, or silence... it doesn't make sense at all....

REALLY annoying

what i described works if the loop length is smaller than the whole clip.
now if the loop contains the whole clip, you first have to change loop length then change loop start point.

i mean all this is so unnatural...

basically, what i want is that if i split a portion of a clip (using Ctrl-E), and click on the LOOP button, the loop sets itself on the active portion.

instead of clicking on loop try right clicking above the waveform in the clip view and then pick "loop current region". Voila.

Ups, never seen that command before!

Thanx,
before I read this I made some reflections about the transport and how to avoid situations like this wich are not really clear and how there is perhaps no need for such a command and a lot of other stuff.

It would be cool if you could read it and give your opinion.
