best workflow for automating the looper?

I'd like to use dummy clip automation, but if I use one dummy clip for rec / ovd / play, and a second dummy clip for automating the looper speed, the speed clip will stop the looper even though it doesn't contain rec / ovd / play automation

Can I have ableton's fx params not revert to their "last mouseup value" when playing clips that don't contain automation info for that particular param?

I could do the "dummy clip midi loopback" thing but that's so much effort to keep track of.

Arrangement view would work but the dummy clip workflow would be soooo much better if fx params didn't revert to their "last mouseup value" when playing clips that don't contain automation info for that particular param....
