There needs to be a way to set the default grid for new midi clips. As far as I can tell, there's no way to set it.
Worse, it doesn't follow any default logic.
I get different results in each of these scenarios:
1. Right click session slot > "Insert empty midi clip" = defaults to fixed 16ths grid line
2. Record midi into session slot = defaults to adapative "narrow" grid lines
3. Record midi in arrange = defaults to fixed 16ths grid line
At the very LEAST it should default to match my "Record Quantization" settings. C'mon Ableton, this is basic software engineering and midi editing 101. It's NEEDED for workflow.
Set the default grid for new clips
Re: Set the default grid for new clips
+1 to that.
I posted about it years ago. Not even saving as a template will retain the grid settings.

Re: Set the default grid for new clips
Agreed! The only way to do it is to copy/paste the same clip before it, then delete the contents.
May we please have more tuplet options as well. Sheesh.

Re: Set the default grid for new clips
everytime I overdub inside a midi clip, the grid properties go back to default 1/16. that's normal ? and it makes a new clip inside the clip I'm recording in so I have to cmd+J everytime to consolidade, then change the grid value. this can't be normal, what I'm doing wrong ?
