Sound On Sound review concern
Sound On Sound review concern
I was reading the Push 3 review published by Sound On Sound. One sentence gave me concern. It says “There’s no class-compliant direct audio connectivity over USB in the standalone mode”. Similar devices can do this so I’m surprised that the new Push can’t. Can Push 3 owners confirm if this is true…. please?

Re: Sound On Sound review concern
yes, I confirm
I had a Maschine+ and an MPC Live before the P3S, and both accepted class-compliant audio interfaces.
but Ableton has made a different choice: we use the built-in audio interface, and if we want more I/O, we go via ADAT.
Honestly, I think it's a good thing...
I was even able to save money to finance part of the price difference with the Push3...
because it allowed me to sell my (much more expensive) USB interface and buy a cheap ADAT 8 preamplifier/converter
(there are lots of old firewire interfaces on the second-hand market that can be used standalone and have very good converters e.g: MOTU...)
with the MPC and Maschine+, there were sometimes compatibility/stability problems with some interfaces... at least using the Push's internal interface you don't have to worry.
that being said,
it's always better to have a choice, of course...
so perhaps Ableton will offer this feature in the future for those who want to use a specific USB audio interface.

Re: Sound On Sound review concern
So for someone like me that will have the Push 3 in the living room, when I want to connect it to my studio rig to hear the project in more depth, it needs to be in computer mode and obviously running in Ableton Live? That seems odd but I guess I'll get used to it. Actually, I need more reasons to open and run Ableton Live.......so maybe this is a good thing.
