How Are you Using Your Behringer BCF 2000 ???

Post by ::mic-minimal:: » Wed Aug 03, 2005 9:10 pm

alright you cats, let a brotha know somethin.
how are you applying the bcf 2000 in your setup, as a traditional mixer, or as a performance tool, are you k==ping it in the studio or using it to enhance your live performance, maybe both, what ever you could share about it i'd peciate it. I just got one, but i'm so used to just using an akai mpd with my laptop that i'm not sure if this will get in the way or not.

I use it as a performance/mix tool and as a production tool. It rocks!

i use mine mostly in arrangement view to automate things like operator parameters and such. i map the faders to the respective channel faders as well. its real use, i've found, is for tools like reason which take advantage of the automated faders. i rewire reason into live and the faders and controls will remap based on which device i have selected in the reason rack.

for the price, its a very handy tool. i've been happy with it.

I dont even use any presets, I just map what I need no the fly. I tend to use it more or less like a mixer. I will be getting the other B controller this week so I have more knobs to twiddle with. ;)

good stuff, yeah
rahlo was telling me about how it's good for reason, i just got 3.0 so i'll be trying that out with it as well.

i'm wondering are there any 'outside of the box' ways in wich people are using it, i guess coming up with such things is up to myself, but i'd love to know how others are doing it

I bought a bcf-bcr combo a couple of weeks ago, already I did 2 live gigs with them.

I use the bcf as a mixer (incl returns) and the bcr as a tweaker (eq, freq filter, ...)

But I'm waiting for some native support by ableton. reason's native support is awesome!!!

I'm using it for djing live. My setup at the moment is as follows, but i'm pretty sure i'm going to change it soon to take advantage of 5's new features.

Faders 1-6 - channel faders
Fader 7 - flanger return
Fader 8 - supatrigga return

1st row of buttons - trigger clip
2nd row - cue (i use a third insert for cueing so that the button led stays on)

Rotary group 1 - master - includes volume, pan, 3 eq, tempo and cue volume
Rotary group 2 - eq3 bass control for each channel
Rotary group 3 - flanger send
Rotary group 4 - supatrigga send

For the groups 2-4, i've set it up so pressing the pot in toggles between kill and 0db (bass) or 100% send.

I've also got two buttons mapped for whizzing up and down the scenes - i used to use a rotary controller but the resolution was too high.

It's a nice little unit, i've got a few niggles with the way ableton 5 handles it (e.g. setting up a button to toggle looping as ableton doesn't send an update when you reselect samples). It works really well in Reason, remapping the controls when you select each item. Very f*cking neat.

one of the tricks i use: i've put a "gate" device on all the tracks, and i use the knobs on the bcr to set the threshold value.
it acts like a fader but slightly differently: it outputs only the louder elements as you turn it down.

i've set the knobs to display inverted values (min value @ 127, and max @ 0), so that the knobs will display as faders.

i tryed that tric last week ,it sounds better with a limiter behind it .

i'm using my bcf primarily for direct access to my VSTi's, i can usually get the main parameters for two of them up at once, so i'm thinking of geting another as it's so immediate for realtime filter tweakes etc...

Mic,

The problem is that I want to assign a button to control the looping of a clip. I want it so that the button is illuminated when a clip is looped, and you press to activate/deactivate. The problem is that when you select another clip, live doesn’t send a midi update to set the status of the button. Probably easier if I give you an example:

Imagine you have two clips that are not looped.
First select clip 1, and press the button on the bcf to enable looping, the LED lights up
You then select clip 2, which is still unlooped, but the led on the bcf is still lit. You then have to press the button twice to get the clip to loop as Live doesn’t send a midi update with the correct status when you select another clip.

Annoying, huh?

They are so cheap I bought two BCF and two BCR. I wanted to create as close to an analog console as I could. Only got them last week so havent had much tim eto try them out properly. But so far working very well and no problems. I needed a powered USB adaptor.
