Splitting encoders and pads?
Splitting encoders and pads?
Is there any way to use the pads to play notes from one track while simultaneously using the encoders to control settings on a different track?
Re: Splitting encoders and pads?
I’ve been wondering this too… I suspect the answer is basically no, but it would be wonderful! (It’s great that you can use the session view on screen to launch clips while playing pads - this would take it to the next level…) Presumably you could rig something up using max for live mapping but you’d need to prep all that in advance in controller mode.

You can lock Push to a device (right-click the device's header and you'll see the option).
But if you're talking about P3S here, then there's no way currently.

I found kind of a workaround using max for live devices like 1000 Percent Knob (https://maxforlive.com/library/device/9 ... rcent-knob)
You can actually use max mapping on different tracks than the device is on, so I actually made myself an 8x knob mapping device. It works overall but it really feels like cheating the system

Re: Splitting encoders and pads?
I am talking about P3S.
FWIW, here's what I'm trying to do.
I have a MIDI drum loop going. The track on which the loop lives has a drum kit followed by a sound-mangling effect (currently I'm using Grain Delay, but of course it could be anything). These two devices are bundled in an instrument rack, with selected controls from both the drum kit and the mangler mapped to the macro knobs. This means that by tweaking the macro knobs, I can transform the sound of the drum loop.
Meanwhile, I want to use the Push pads to play melodic notes over that background, which turns out to be difficult because in order for the knobs to affect the drum track, I have to select that track--which turns the pads into drum pads.
I've tried various alternatives, but there doesn't seem to be a straightforward way to do it at the moment. I suppose I could use an external controller such as a Kenton Killamix to control the macros; but then I'm not reminded of their names.
