Post by vandeloow » Thu Aug 04, 2005 6:50 pm

i tested the newest drivers from tcelectronics (1.95) on os x 10.3.9. if i load a powercore instance, the computer become a fatal crash (gray screen) -> reboot

tomorrow, i try it on my tiger powerbook...

Hi vandeloow,

have you already tried several plug-in buffer sizees to see if it makes a difference?
The most user get the best result when setting the plug-in buffer size to "As audio buffer".

Alex

Are all Powercore users getting this with Live 5 and OS X Tiger (i.e. after setting ADMA buffer to 1 and plugin buffer size to "As audio buffer")? How many plugins can you run with L5/Tiger before you max out the Powercore?

hi alex,

with beta 5.03, powercore works, but the cpu load ist still very high. best results with about 105ms buffer (in the live preferences)
with my laptop 1.67 Ghz and 2Gig Ram and os x (one plugin loaded) around 25 to 35 cpu percent.

25 to 35% for ONE instance? Wow, I thought my UAD-1 card was giving me trouble. That truly is outrageous, and given the obvious problems with DSP cards, I think we ought to know if/when Ableton intends to try to fix this issue. I'm sure I'm not the only one who bought or upgraded to v5 *specifically* to capitalize on the benefits of PDC in using a DSP card.

Yeah, Live5 _is_ CPU hungry indeed, using native or Poco plugins.

But the load using the poco is much too high,
I´m looking forward for a fix, too.

BTW: Anyone using the PoCo Virus. Even using Live it shows
some strange midi issues.

What's the latest consensus on using Powercore or UAD in Live 5.02? Is it just a disaster (Mac or Win?) or does it vary from person to person? Would be great to know.
