Copying parts from one Ableton Live project file to another and removing dependencies

Post by sparky99 » Fri Oct 27, 2023 10:52 am

I am new to Ableton Live.

I copied drum grooves and and other parts created as MIDI that I want from one Ableton Live project to another project by expanding the .als file on the left file browser in Ableton Live and dragging the components into the Arrangement View of the new project.

This all works well until I move the original location of the first .als file to somewhere else on the computer. The particular track doesn't show offline or greyed out in the Arrangement view, but that track (such as drum loop) just does't play at all until I move the first als where I extracted the components back to the original location. How to get rid of such a dependancy here?

I tried duplicating the track within Ableton, doing Consolidate etc. but I still need the first als in its original location.

Many thanks in advance.

I guess you are moving the whole project folder instead of only the.als file. And that this project folder contains the samples of the drum rack.
If that's the case, execute a Collect All and Save, so the samples are copied to the new project. After this you can move the first project.
