FW Audiophile or Solo? same price!! buy soon, help!

Post by MrSleep » Fri Aug 05, 2005 9:49 am

a reseller in my local area is selling the FireWire Audiophile at the same price as FireWire Solo!!!

at the M-Audio website the difference is $100us

FW Audiophile $349 USD RRP
FW Solo $249 USD RRP

a local seller.. http://guitarparadise.com.au

FW Audiophile $399 AU!!! (thats australian dollars!)
FW Solo $399 AU

I had my heart set on the Solo for its mic pre's and all but now Im not so sure???

Would I be better of with stability and quality wise with Audiophile, then add a cheap Behringer UB802 that has 2 mic pre's?

What would you do?
hurry up.... mr squigle....

I have the AP FW and really like it.
Initially the drivers werent great but got the latest ones and havent had a problem since.

There are no Mic inputs as you point out which is not a problem for me as I dont do a lot of singing! I'm not sure about the quality of the Behringer mic inputs so cant comment really.

I use it for digital DJing and it works nicely for that.

It can be powered by 6-pin firewire which is fine from your desktop but most laptops have the 4-pin mini which means it requires a power adapter making it a little less portable at times.

I would say it depends on whats important to you. It sounds as though you had already made your mind up on the Solo but this offer has made you think twice. If I had the money I'd got for a FW 1810 or if I had even more I think the MUTU 828 mk II - I havent hear a bad word said about that and have heard a lot of good reviews.

Its always a tough decison deciding what to buy...

M-audio and Solo

I use Solo and it works great. Low latency using firewire to an IBM laptop. Use ASIO drivers for lowest latency - you can play f.eks guitar or sing through a PC and monitor with audio effect of guitar rig or Live. Great stuff.

thanks for the prompt reply guys,

im the kind of person that gets more inclined to buy stuff that has a larger savings tag on it, not a good atribute buts thats me.

anyways, did a froogle watch to see the pricing on the both cards, turned out to be about the same.., maybe thats because FW-Audiophile's been out longer, I dont know, but i think im gonna take the Solo, since its got all the things i wanted from the card in the forst place, and dont need all the surround feature or midi so its gonna have to settle there..

Im no singer too, but after seeing kid-rock's video, it inspired me to at least have dabble with oral sound work.
I dont know how long and what it takes to master that, but i'll give it a go anyway and see what comes out of my mouth

kid rock's ..

EDIT: Kid Beyond is what I meant to say,
