Quiet at start of audio recording
Quiet at start of audio recording
Hey had a look and couldn't find anyone asking about this, I'm using ableton live 11 lite and trying to record audio directly using just my windows laptop's microphone (device is microphone array (intel smart sound technology for digital microphones) DX) but keep finding the first second or two of any recording I make is very quiet and then it jumps to full volume? Very new to ableton so any help appreciated, thanks

Re: Quiet at start of audio recording
My guess is it's automatic gating or gain reduction used by the internal mic.
What that means is when the input sound level is low enough the gain on the mic will automatically be brought down.
The point of this is to lessen background sound, primarily for Zoom call situations. When you're not talking (input level is low) it will reduce the mic gain so as to not pick up background sounds and noise. Once the mic registers a louder input (you start talking) the gain will come back up.
Not sure why it's dragging for a full second or two. Also not sure if you can turn this off in your laptop or OS settings.
