Hello,
In Ableton Live Suite 11 I would like to record loops with different lengths.
for example in a 4/4 time signature project,
I would like to record a clip of 5 beats
then the next clip 3 beats and so on during a live performance.
On Loopy Pro it's super easy.
You set in advance the recorded length of the donut (clip)
You can choose from 1 triplet to 8th note 1 beat 2 beats 3 beats 4 beats and so on.
How can I do it in Ableton Live?
I found a video Binkbeats explaining that he used the Looper without quantization

I don't fully understand how he does it but I wish future version of Ableton LIVE
will make this kind of function more easy to do.

Re: record audio 9/4 loop length in 4/4 time signature project
maybe I’m misunderstanding, but I think there are a couple of ways to manage. you could set your loop points for the 5 beats, record until you’re happy, then do the same for the 3 beat portion. or you could record the full 8 beats and split the clip at beat 5.

Thank you for your reply.
I don't 100% understand your reply either sorry.
I'll try to be more clear.
I'm talking about live performance in 4/4 with clips already running.
I would like to set an empty clip length in advance so that when I trigger it
it will record and stop recording of the clip after 5 beats in a 4/4 time signature.
So the length of the new clip will be 1 beat longer than the rest of the running clip,
giving a sort of randomness to the music.
I don't want to edit it after recording it live.

Re: set in advance an empty audio clip to 5 beats in 4/4 time signature project
ah, I understand now! unfortunately, I don’t do much in a live setting (or in Session view), so I don’t know how/if that may be possible. sorry I can’t be much help—good luck!

If it's midi, then you can simply create an empty midi clip to the length of your choice, and when you want to record something in it, just select it and overdub it.cellicello wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 11:45 amI'm talking about live performance in 4/4 with clips already running.

If it's audio, you could probably do something similar but with the help of a dummy clip in another track OR just set your global quantization to 1/4 (this is also valid for a midi clip if you don't want to prepare any empty in advance).
