I got some new plug ins, I notice that some of them come in Auv2 VST3 and VSt2 . When I look at the plug ins in my folders I see multiple copies of some in Auvs Vst 2 and Vst 3 .
Is it Ok to leave all three types of plug ins or delete two so I only have ONE plug in per plug in type??
Thx R
Plug ins question
Re: Plug ins question
It’s a personal preference, but VST2 is going away. VST2 also don’t organize very well and tend to be messy when searching for one
Also, using AU and VST (2 or 3) at the same time in a project can sometimes cause issues with hardware controllers and/or in situations where you use an AU for a plugin on one track and use a VST version of the same plugin on another track in the project
Personally, in Live’s settings, I disable all but VST3. Live loads faster and it’s more organized when searching for a plugin
I also typically only install AU and VST3 when the plugin installer gives the option to choose - it saves space. I use AU if I happen to be working in Logic, otherwise I probably wouldn’t install those anymore either

There might be situations where one might work better than the other.
Generally though VST3 would be the best one to use and the one most likely to be universally supported.
VST2 might be needed for older stuff. And AU might be needed if there are known issues with VST versions.
