create new blank midi clip from push?

Post by clay » Sat Jun 01, 2024 9:52 pm

in live you can double tap a cell on a midi track to create a new blank midi clip. I cant seem to find any info on doing this from push. I dont want to record, just create a blank clip and do some sequencing. Seems logical to just double tap a blank pad to create a new clip but that doesn't work for me.

maybe im missing something basic?

No need to create a empty Clip to start sequencing in Live, you just press Note to get into Note Mode and then press Layout to switch to one of the sequencer layouts (like Drums Loop Selector or Melodic Sequencer), when you sequence the 1st note the Clip is created (and starts playing), and like [jur] said, you can control which size with Fixed Length.

Having said that, you can create an empty Clip by:

1- Pressing Note to get into Note Mode, press Layout to switch to Melodic Sequencer, by simply adding a single note anywhere then simply removing that same single note.

2- If a Drum Rack was already added to the Track, press Note to get into Note Mode (to Drums Loop Selector), then simply press one of the pads in the right-bottom sector (much like you would use the pads in that sector to visualize the Clip's length and playing bar), if you press the righmost-bottommost pad it will create a 16 bar Clip, the pad above a 12 bar Clip, the pad above that one a 8 bar Clip, etc.
