Push 3 non-Standalone keeps freezing crashing
Push 3 non-Standalone keeps freezing crashing
Hi.
I got a Push 3 and it keeps freezing and crashing. It happens after a few minutes and I have to turn it off and on but after a few minutes it happens again. Seems this has been happening since Push 1 since the posts Ive found online are very old. The issue is so prevalent it is practically useless.
Win11 pro 64bit
AsRock Z790 LiveMixer motherboard
Intel 15 13600k
no video card, using 2 monitors connected to motherboard.
32gb ram
Ableton 12 Standard
Push 3
Everything to latest version
I already sent a ticket to support but since the issue seems to be widespread, maybe I could help a bloke in the same situation.
Observations, just saying fwiw:
- While push is froze, if I go to Live and click the tracks with the mouse, the Push change as well even with the sequencer working out, pads change colors etc. it is just unresponsive.
- Sometimes the crash involves the screen glitching out and freezing but most of the time it freezes like metioned and thescreen goes dark.
- in Live settings there are 2 sets of Push 3: Port 2 and Port 3. Read some post mentioning that this could be an issue so I disabled all check boxes in Port 3 however it still crashes. Same post suggested to delete the duplicate entries but I dont know where the folders are.
- There is a ? in device manager Other Devices that say Ableton Push 3 xPort but read is some post that this is normal but who knows.
- I have other hardware synths that I MIDI with USB but while I troubleshoot this I just have the keyboard, mouse, push and audio interface (tascam model 12) connected to USB.
-Push 2 is connected using the supplied USBC cable to a USBC port in the motherboard.
-This is a Ableton 12 install that seems to be using Live 11 settings since all projects, vst paths etc are there...
-Before Push I was using Live with a Maschine mk2 and Komplete Kontrol MK1, both with MIDI scripts from NI and it worked flawlessly, actually, everything worked flawlessly from Ableton 10 to 12 including MIDI stuff, external synths midied thru USB etc.
It could be that it is a faulty unit but Im not sure... Any ideas or things to try out are welcome.
Thanks!

Re: Push 3 non-Standalone keeps freezing crashing
Are you trying to use both P2 and P3 at the same time using the same Live instance?
Did you try using a single monitor?

Hello. Thank you for the reply.
At first both p2 and p3 had all checkboxes. Then removed the checkboxes from port P3 and remained with port P2 only. The crashes continue. I have not tried using one monitor. Will try and report.
I also tried with another computer, a Win11 home laptop (12700h, 32gb ram, 3070ti) Live11 standard, with another shorter usbc cable but no power supply (the plan was for a travel setup w/no power supply) and the crashes still occur. This laptop has
I'll be testing with a Macbook with Monterey during the weekend and will report back findings.
Re: Push 3 non-Standalone keeps freezing crashing
Disconnected one monitor. Crashes continue. The Push 3 is useless at this point since crashes happen within a minute or 2.
Re: Push 3 non-Standalone keeps freezing crashing
Hi. Maybe there is a way to completely delete P3 (instead of just disabling it by removing the checkmarks)? Perhaps deleting a folder or similar like when you do when adding hardware not available in the list.
Re: Push 3 non-Standalone keeps freezing crashing
Sorry for the late answer. You don't have to check the checkboxes in the Mid Prefs, P3 script is selected automatically behind the scene. That might be the reason you're seeing this crash, a midi feedback loop might be taking place.

Hi Jur,
After some troubleshooting with the support team it was determined there is an issue with the USB connection. THe unit is going back for replacement.
Thank you for your time.

Re: Push 3 non-Standalone keeps freezing crashing
Hi. Yes, a replacement solved the issue. Seems the USB C port of the Push 3 is very fragile and you need to do cable reconnections as seldom as possible. The Push 2 had a way chunkier design but for Push 3 just dont mess with it, and forget using those fancy angled cases that cause more strain to the connector. For sure it needs a way to secure that port it be getting it more receded or a cable that snaps securely to the port and chassis... whateverit is, Ableton needs to improve on that.
