Ableton is Flat 1/2 Step

Post by SoundsLikeBIB » Tue Jul 09, 2024 12:55 am

Notes I'm playing in Ableton are flat by 1/2 step when I compare against several tuners. How do I fix this? This just started happening within the last 3-4 days. I've tried several drivers. Something is just off.

With some of the recent new features, there could be a wide range of possibilities.

I guess the first thing would be to use the test tone in preferences and see if that comes out in tune.

Next option is to disconnect all midi controllers, open a fresh set, add a new instrument channel with a simple synth tone (like an initialized patch in Operator, not a complex synth tone that might have detuning) and Draw a note into a clip. Make sure you have no midi fx devices. And see if you still have the tuning issue.

If it is still wrong, at least you know it is happening with a lot fewer variables.

If it comes out correct, then the issue is most likely one of the variables that was removed.

Could also be a sample rate mis-match.

Check that Live, your computer, and your audio interface (+ your interface’s control/mixer software, if applicable) are all set to the same sample rate.

I had a similar problem once and it turned out to be some setting in my midi piano keyboard. At some point, I had set the keyboard to transpose a step or half step and it didn't automatically reset itself when power cycling, dis-connecting/re-connecting, etc. and it there was no indicator on the keyboard to show you that it was set to transpose. Took me a while to realize what was happening!
