I'm sure something like this has been mentioned before, but I wanted to layout some enhancements I think would be really cool for the Audio Effect Racks.
1. Buttons: I'm sure this has been beaten to death, but come on. There are so many times in my custom racks where I need to use a knob to control whether a plugin/effect is on or off. This should absolutely be a button.
2. Automated Input Gain, Output Gain, Dry/Wet, Delta: IMO each AER (Audio Effect Rack) should have input/output gain knobs (input for input obviously, and output for makeup/down gain AFTER all internal effects. A built in Dry/Wet knob would also be super helpful so I don't have to keep reinventing the wheel, and a nice to have would be a delta button (just lay an inverted dry signal over the internal effects, after input gain, but before output gain, to hear the difference between the dry signal and the effects.
3. Some kind of UI view: In some of my really complex racks that have multiple layers of AERs, there are situations where I would love the user to be able to control specific instances of effects, or to be able to see like a 3 layer deep limiter, for the visual feedback to see what the rack knobs are doing. Some kind of UI view where you could pick and choose which effects are added to this view, and what order they show up in would be amazing.
4. Probably another obvious one. More knobs. Somehow sometimes 16 is too few
5. The ability to set curves, or zones in the mappings. Maybe for a knob I want the first 20 values to curve in a certain way, but the next 20 values to curve in a different way, etc. Basically impossible.
6. The ability to map a knob to another knob. Lets say I have a knob controlling the frequency on a low pass but it's set to maybe 2k to 4k. I'd love to be able to use another knob to control the "center" of that knob so I could move it to be 1k to 3k, etc.
I'm sure I have other ideas here, but for now that's it. What do y'all think? Any other suggestions?
Audio Effect Rack Enhancements
Re: Audio Effect Rack Enhancements
I think these are all thoughtful ideas and would be a great addition to the audio racks. AER's are such a wonderful part of Live that differentiates it from other DAWs and I'd love to see them refined even further.
