I have two controllers - NovationSL MkII and Arturia Keystep.
To control Ableton's Preview volume with my Keystep, I've assigned one of its encoders to it. It's CC43.
But now I cannot remote-control Channel4 Mute on the Novation - because they share the same Midi CC.

Now this situation raised some questions for me:
-I thought Midi Controllers (connected via Usb) do not send MidiCC messages but are communicating with the DAW otherwise (Hui? MCU? don't know).
-in Live, after recording Mute on/off, I'm seeing a Speaker on/off message in the Envelope editor. No Midi CC message.

However that may be - I'm quite sure that just choosing a random different CC nr. on my Keystep would not fix that problem because then it would again interfere with some other Live control. (CC44 maybe mutes Channel 5 and so on.)
So - is there a list of Ableton's standard Midi CC assignments?
So I can switch to a CC that I'll likely never use, like Mute or Volume channel >16.
Ableton Midi CC list?
Re: Ableton Midi CC list?
There are a few midi modes. Basically two.
There is ‘Control Surface’ which is the upper half of midi preferences. And then there is ‘Remote’ mapping which is turned off or on in the lower half.
Control surface uses code to give your controller some ‘automatic’ kinda or functions without having to map anything.
If both Remote and control surface options are on for a controller, remote mappings will override the control surface mappings. If you don’t need to do remote mapping on one of the controllers, an option is to turn Remote off. It’ll still function as a control surface.

Re: Ableton Midi CC list?
Turning Remote Off did the trick.
