Move as a controller
Move as a controller
Hi, I really like move's concept. I have a couple of questions if anyone can answer them it would be great since I'm really considering being an early buyer:
1. Using it as a live controller, can you scroll through the instrument's parameters or are you just stuck to the 8 macros?
2.Is it possible to transfer drift and wavetable presets from live to move?
3. Can you do 3/4 bars in standalone? Can you do odd metering?
4.Can you warp samples in standalone?
Thanks a lot

Re: Move as a controller
I was curious whether it can warp too. I don't think it does (nothing in the manual).
Re: Move as a controller
1. Only the 8 macros
2. Drift yes, Drum racks using samples too. But Wavetable no.
3. TBH, this is tricky as it's designed for 4/4. But you can workaround it with the loop length.
4. Nope.

So sad it's only a midi controller via usb C. It would have been so dope if it worked over wifi !
Maybe in a next firmware update, I'll definitively buy one if this is happening !

Re: Move as a controller
need more videos to see how it works as a live controller, there are none currently
you should be able to load drift and wavetable instruments as init patches, not just adjusting presets.

Re: Move as a controller
Are the encoders exclusively for the macros, or can we adjust the track level/volume like on Push (mix view/session)?
That's the only mention in the manual :/By default, the Volume encoder adjusts Live’s Main track volume. Hold a track button and turn the Volume encoder to adjust the volume for that track in Note Mode, or hold a track’s step button and turn the encoder to adjust the level in Session Mode. You can hold a Drum Rack pad and turn the Volume encoder to change the chain volume for that pad in the Rack.

Re: Move as a controller
Hello jur (and everyone else)!
In other words, if I have a rack in Live and that rack has 16 macros mapped, would I be able to access all 16 macros when using Move in controller mode via a second page (similar to how it's done on Push) or am I limited to the first 8 rack macros? And if it's not possible (yet), is that something that's planned or is the feeling at Ableton HQ that this would bring Move too close to Push in functionality?
Thanks a bunch for clarifying this!
This has been a point I haven't been able to find more detailed information on in any YT videos, the Elektronaut forums, Reddit or here yet: Does this apply only to the instrument's parameter banks or does it also apply to the rack macros?

Re: Move as a controller
Just a quick thought but I wonder if it's likely or even if possible for Ableton to make Move a controller for Note as well.
That could help overcome some of the limitations, track count, sample rate, etc.

It's only 8 macros.

I don’t believe it does midi over Bluetooth. And it is effectively note. Note does accept note entry controllers, I believe, although the latency in Bluetooth headphones inhibited developing a routine of using note, so I’m not the authority. So consider sending it to cloud and then opening it in note. But consider in a way that drum sampler, note app were sort of the back end for supporting this bit of hardware.
Re: Move as a controller
Bluetooth isn't necessary, Note takes midi over usb, and there are usb headphone jack splitters for ios devices.braduro wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 12:55 pmI don’t believe it does midi over Bluetooth. I think the only limitation is if there is something built-in to iOS preventing it or if Ableton just didn't care to do it and thinks the cloud sync is good enough.
I'm aware of syncing with Ableton Cloud. Note just can probably just do more because of the phone/tablet processing power, like more tracks and higher sample rates, so if there is an option for Move to be to Note what Push is to Live I think some people may appreciate that. Especially being that if you're on the go you're more than likely going to have your phone with you anyway.
It was just a thought anyway. I'm happy with Move as it is, it just seems like an obvious opportunity if it's possible.
Re: Move as a controller
I didn't mean to negate any of your very fine points, only to point out that from it's limited reach as a controller in live, and you're already capable of using other devices, with less cables in Note. And I think this is still relegated to note input and midi mapping 8 CC's. So would Move work? Well, it might. But my impression is that the integration isn't particularly tight or worthwhile.
Oh, and there's currently no way to send more than from midi channel 1
Good point on processing power; I hadn't considered the motive. But then again, that's why you might touch the tablet/screen.
So seeing as its a carbon of the same session on either platform, I almost think of Move as the Note session that doesn't require you to even look at your tablet, if that sounds somewhat apologist. So yeah, I think your question speaks to whether they could lift the limitations of a controller in Note and Move that were already in place

Thank you, chapelier fou! Kind of sad though...
