Audio clipping from speakers (even at low volume)

Post by ElectroClash » Sat Oct 12, 2024 8:05 pm

Hello! I’m trying Move for the first time and the sound from speakers is clipping, or, better, it seems to have a sort of bit reduction.
This “effect” keeps as long as I keep pressed note button.
Obviously i can hear it also at low volume.

Anyone has same issue?
Shall i return it to Ableton?

I've noticed the line output runs hot while doing some live recording tests - but you might be hearing a master effect that's causing extra distortion or bit reduction. You can access the 2 master FX in the clip view (press the 3 stacked lines/hamburger button) until you reach the flashing pads per track. Once there you can move the main jog wheel left and right to adjust params for both effects. Hope that helps!

Thank you for your reply, but not… on headphones it doesn’t happens.
In the meantime other 3 units from my friends has same behavior, Ableton also switched my unit with a new one but it persist.
Please try yourself, select a bass patch with long decay and keep pressed the pad, you will hear that.
Due to the fact that it happens also at low volume it seems something depending on digital crossover: I mean it seems that speakers are trying to reproduce something they cannnot.

Cheers!

Interesting, you're hearing this on the built in move speaker, or on external speakers? If external, what kind? And what bass patch are you using? I'd like to try it out myself.

Built in. No problem from audio out (headphones or external speakers)

More precisely: if the “sound”’ends (the bass release is finished) but you keep pressed the pad, you will hear a tail of noise, similar to a bit reduction.
I repeat, even if the main sound is finished.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah the internal speaker is pretty poor beyond basic monitoring.

Yah. I dont know what i expected, but i guess it wasnt this. The speakers are very low quality. I guess i expected something of MB pro level quality, but i get there is a large price difference there. Terrible clipping / distortion from move. As someone who bought move with the intent to only use it full standalone, with no headphones or external monitoring, im a bit disappointed, but oh well. Still a great device.
