50 to RENDER !

Post by bkruppik » Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:36 am

I have a project with 40 tracks. I have one recorded audio track with about 10 effects (internal from Ableton) and external (plugins).
The track is about 90 min long

Running Intel-i9/24-core,, 64Gb/RAM, M.2-NVME(4Tb).
Windows10/Pro, Live12

Today I think I have set a WORLD RECORD !

I wanted to export single track to .WAV + MP3 (typical default export settings)

=====================
IT TOOK 50 MINUTES !!!
=====================

almost one hour per track! so if I would want to export 30+ steams it would take roughly 2 days - right ?
with 30+ projects I am working on, I would pretty much have no way/time to work on the projects, because my computer will stay busy exporting tracks...

just wander if this is normal..../typical.....

Ableton always has been very slow with rendering, I once worked for TV post and had to render many 90min tracks, which was horrible. I've always wondered why that is, especially since CPU usage is usually relatively low during export.

IT might be an illusion, but I am under impression that v12 is slower than v11.
I also have an impression that when the track is FREZING LIVE still takes into consideration plugins and effects placed on that track. Same applies to exporting. This should really have not take so long. I use STUDIO ONE as well and it does the rendering about 4-5 times faster.

While typin this I trying to freze 90 min single audio track with about 10 exxtects on it. After 15 min it is still not ready :-(
CPU (23-core i, 64Gb-RAM7) is at around 14% and all is done on M.2-NVme drive.
I just wonder if the full CPU power can be utilized somehow ? Unsure how to verify how many cores are usede. I see no settings for that anymore.

Super annoying :-(
