Best Practices for shifting sequence?

Often I'll begin a pattern with no discernible downbeat, but I'm confident my playing is rather steady, and it's definitely a pattern.

Capture from a stopped transport will more times than not choose the wrong step to assign as the downbeat. Even if I preview the options for predicted tempo and even if it gets it right. I'll play along if I think it's a welcome surprise, but this creates issues with where the bars loop and whether other tracks and patterns will ever line up correctly.

Currently, I think I'll then delete this first clip, press record, and lay down the pattern while things are running, now that I have a fairly accurate tempo. that just seems to be the simplest next move, and the best practices in this case.

But it would be great if nudge worked on a clip level. There's mention of it working per bar in the page view. And a long hold left/right will move the pattern to the neighbouring step. But then I'd have to listen along to the metronome and do that per page.

What if holding a pad in session view allowed for other clip manipulation? (On a side note, wouldn't it be neat if the step sequencer functioned as momentary effects like on a Pocket Operator? Magnus Lidström from Sonic charge had a lot to do with that, btw.)

Have you figured out a better way to get up and running or to have more success with capture out of the gate?
