Starting Ableton from default set.

Post by jonel » Thu Jan 09, 2025 1:44 pm

I appear to have developed a serious problem with Ableton.
I have been using Ableton 12 for some time now and I've noticed that it takes significantly longer to load and be responsive to input than it has been in the past. One significant issue is that when I create a new Midi Track from the top level menu, this track is installed with a Kontakt 7 instrument already installed. The instance of Kontakt is one that I used to have in an orchestral template. That template is very significantly populated and certainly would cause this slower operation.
The problem is that I am not using this template!

I've tried resetting to the default Live set but this has no effect on the behaviour. When I create a midi channel by duplicating an existing default empty track then there is no problem, it only occurs when I Create Midi Track from the top level menu.
Apart from trying to reset to the default set, I also loaded a Live set from a time when there was definitely no connection to a template, but the same behaviours exists. I even resorted to loading Ableton 11 and this has the same problem.
Somehow I am picking up template information and I really need to revert to the default state. I suspect the issue may have been present in Ableton 11 and this behaviour was included during the install of Ableton 12. I have even moved the templates out of my template folder completely, but still no joy.

Any help please?

It looks like you have set a custom default track.
Create the track as you want it to be and right click in the track header and select 'save as default MIDI track'.

You can also delete the current default by going to User Library>Defaults>Creating Tracks>MIDI Track

You are absolutely coirrect. I did find this just after I made the post and I felt really embarrased about it, especially as I don't recall making the default.. Thank you very much.
