Longtime user, NEVER had problems until version 12

Post by artus1 » Fri Feb 14, 2025 7:35 pm

As title says. Never had a problem with the lightweight but amazing software, until now that is. Bug after bug I need to resolve every time I run it. It's no longer fun to make music because of this!

Im not running an out of spec machine either. Problems with plugins I never had before on older versions (yes, real, paid plugins), frequent problems with crashes which only very very rarely happened in the past, problems with slowdown/my CPU usage (showing 45-55% even when the song isnt playing?)

Sorry, but Ableton 12 is trash if it does this kind of thing. I cant even imagine how annoying it would be if I were a touring musician trying to use it. I guess just scrap it and go back to 11, which is what I might as well do. And obviously I will not upgrade again unless this is taken care of.

Ableton devs, PLEASE slim down the bloated junk 12 additions for the slim and lightweight version we all know and love. DAWs absolutely MUST be lightweight software especially running in concert with third party plugins which can be unpredictable to say the least.

I hope I can use 12 soon and keep upgrading to the latest versions in the future. Please don't force me to go back to 11 and stay there forever (lost customer)

Signed, an old school Live 5 user, upgrading every couple years up til now.

Agreed. Stability should be the number one priority - always! IMHO. really long-term customer loyalty, reputation and (consequently) new users are won based on a DAWs ability to act as a stable platform that becomes transparent when making music. New features are nice and all, but sometimes less is more, quality over quantity etc. Ableton does not lack features (or customization/extensibility with Max for Live etc) - I would always much rather have a non-crashing, flexible program than some b.s. new supposedly zappy feature any day. I was always greatly heartened over the years when Ableton posted that they were focussed on stability/reliability for the next release…

I don't know what system or OS you're using but Live 12 is rock-solid here, there can always be issues with 3rd party plugins so make sure you check if they are up-to-date. Another thing you can try is resetting Live, see the following article:

Mac Studio M2 Max and MacBook Pro M4

Genelec M030; Live 12 latest and beta; macOS 27 Golden Gate
UAD Apollo Twin

Ableton Push 2

Windows 11, but going back to Mac soon. The fact is that it's not as reliable as it used to be for me. It's not about plugins or resetting live, it's about the bloatware in version 12. Hope they slim it down or maybe it'll work better on Mac.
