Live crashes when importing old Drum Rack presets

Post by wascal » Tue Feb 25, 2025 12:17 pm

I've recently come across my old Live library from around 2009 and have set about loading my old presets to my current library. IIRC the old library was from a Windows laptop, and I'm currently on an (admittedly prehistoric) MacBook Pro mid 2012 using OCLP to run Ventura.

Ableton 12.1.5 runs fine normally, no issues there. However sometimes when I drag presets from the old library to the Ableton main screen then I get an instant crash with the following kind of messages (nb; sometimes its 0x0000000000000018, sometimes its 0x0000000000000010)

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000018
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000000018

Termination Reason: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 11 Segmentation fault: 11
Terminating Process: exc handler [5317]

VM Region Info: 0x18 is not in any region. Bytes before following region: 140737487351784
REGION TYPE START - END [ VSIZE] PRT/MAX SHRMOD REGION DETAIL
UNUSED SPACE AT START

I've carried out some troubleshooting and narrowed the issue down to it affecting Drum Rack only, and only when the Drum Rack preset filename contains a hyphen eg; 'Artist - Title.adg'

Is this something any of you have encountered and are there any workarounds? It's not the end of the world but it would be good to be able to revive some of these old patches I made. I'm encountering the same issue on a few old projects as well and I'm presuming its down to the same issue.

I cannot reproduce this issue with such old presets. Hyphens are not a problem on my M1 Mac, a system not comparable to yours.

If you could share a few example presets that cause a problem, perhaps through a Dropbox/iCloud link or something similar, I can check whether the issue lies with the preset or the system.
