I have created a drum rack with 64 armed cells containing carefully cut (clickfree) 808 kick drum samples. In order to work in the given musical settings, playing the drums and recording along as it goes, the samples need to be re-triggered / triggered, depending on the sample mode, and choke each other. (what we don't want is a bunch of potentially super long 808s to ring into each other...)
Now I am hearing changing, nasty clicks and pops upon triggering. Browsing diverse threads, I found no clear answer to this, and none of the debated procedures were able to help me further - especially in regards to fades, attack & release times, envelopes, or better cleaning up samples.
I have found two scenarios in which I am able to get rid of the pops:
-turning off (R) / Retrig in classic mode
-switching from "trigger" to "gate" mode in 1-shot mode
Also, no clicks occur when one sample is played at a time, being allowed to play through from start to finish, without another one interrupting.
So this should offer a clue at where the problem possibly lies, and possibly hinting at something unavoidable in the nature of re/triggering, having to do with waveforms being interrupted...
My questions:
1. Is there a way I can trigger a sample while another one is playing - without clicks & pops in 1-shot & trigger mode or in classic & retrigger mode?
2. If I can’t hold each note until it is finished, and if notes recently triggered are not allowed to overlap, what would be a clever work-around to play fluently the samples whenever the music requires it, and end up with neither chaotic overlappings nor with cut-off pops & cliks?
Thank you!
BTW The closest I got on diverse forums was

basically suggesting it’s not possible?!
