[12.1.10][help] Live hangs when dragging clip to folder

Post by intervolver » Thu Apr 10, 2025 5:30 pm

Environment:
Win 10 | Live 12.1.10
Ryzen 5600X | 32GB RAM | Crucial P3 M.2 NVMe drive

Description of Problem:
When dragging a warped audio clip into a custom places folder to create an .alc file, live will randomly hang, about half of the time. It is effectively frozen and requires restarting the software. It happens with WAV, MP3, and flac files.

Steps to Recreate:
In a new project, drag an edited audio clip to a custom directory in places to save it as an .alc file.

Steps Taken to Resolve:
- Cleared ableton's cache
- Reset preferences
- Plugins up to date
- Ableton is NOT being ran as administrator
- All of Places is analyzed (no spinning wheel)
- The custom location is on the same drive as the install, which is also the system drive C:\
- Tested multiple files in case of file corruption
- mem test on RAM good
- Drive health: Windows drive status OK and CrystalDisk status 99%

I think I've managed to narrow the problem down to a plugin, I haven't eliminated them all but a completely blank project with just audio doesn't seem to cause the issue. I'll reply when I figure out which plug it is. It's absurd to me that a plugin (they're all up to date) could make ableton hang when dragging clips to library and something I would certainly consider a bug in ableton's control.
