Problem:
When working with a large number of clips you wish to save individually, the workflow can become tedious. The current workflow involves consolidating clips one at a time (add batch consolidation!), and then browsing the files in explorer, cutting/copying them into the desired directory, and then using a tool like Power Rename (basic regex required, pita) to bring them in line with your desired naming convention.
Proposed Solution:
A toggle in the options drop-down to "Save Clips as Files", so that when dragging a clip into a folder indexed by live, it creates a file of that type instead of an alc:
- Dragging a midi clip results in a .midi file
- Dragging an audio clip results in a .wav
- The resulting file has exactly the name of the clip without the versioning errata seen on consolidations or crops, let the user and OS handle versioning
Live already handles consolidation and cropping in dedicated project folders, so I don't see why it couldn't crop a file being dragged into the desired folder and rename it to the clip name on the fly
Expanded file handling when dragging clips to library
