Select USB MIDI device outputs don't work on first opening

Post by InteraX » Wed Apr 23, 2025 5:00 pm

Hi all.

I'm having a problem controlling 2 of my instruments via MIDI when I first open Live.

I've saved a 'Default Set' with a group for each instrument containing the MIDI track for the instrument and the Audio track for each instrument.

My current Setup is:
Ableton Live Standard 12.1.11
Windows 11 24H2
Behringer UMC1820
Novation Launchkey Mini Mk3 controller
Novation Drumstation (UMC1820 MIDI)
Roland JD-08 (USB MIDI)
Behringer JT-4000 (USB MIDI)
Behringer TD-3-MO (USB MIDI)
Behringer Proton (USB MIDI)

When I boot my PC, on the first run of Live, neither the TD-3 nor the Proton appear to get any MIDI data when I select the correct MIDI track and press a key on my controller. If I select any other MIDI channel for any other MIDI instrument, data gets sent fine. In the GUI, the MIDI data shows as being received and sent, but nothing happens on the instrument.

If I then close Live and then re-open it, the MIDI channels work as expected.

Is this a current known issue with Live? Has anyone else had a similar issue? What's strange is that it's only these 2 instruments it's happening with.

On previous versions of Live, I had a problem when I switched away from this PC on my KVM with all USB devices going offline, but that seems to be fixed in the current version.

I know this is probably an edge case scenario, but it would be good to know if anyone else is experiencing this.

Is there a list of known issues with Live published anywhere?

Thanks.
