Live set-up help (new to Abelton)

Post by jamie_89 » Wed May 21, 2025 5:23 pm

Hello,

I bought Ableton recently under the impression that I could run my hardware set-up (2 x tb-03, minilogue XD running through midi into an MC707), from the hardware into Ableton and monitor, record and shape (with FX, EQ, compression etc) each instrument on a separate track. I want to be able to do this in a live format, so say EQ and compress the tb03 signal in Ableton live and then play / record a full song live.

Is this even possible. I am using a PC and have been told that this would only work on a mac?

If so, can anyone help? Happy to give more information on how I currently have it set-up.

Since you didn't mention an audio interface, and your devices all seem to have USB audio capabilities, am I right in assuming you're connecting them individually to your PC through USB?

In that case, each of your devices functions as a separate audio interface, and your problem is that Windows isn't able to combine different interfaces into an "aggregate device" like a Mac can.

This means that in Live, in the audio settings, you can only select one ASIO device at a time: your MC707 or one of your TB-03s. If you want to combine them, you could try installing ASIO4ALL, a free third-party ASIO driver. I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard it can combine audio interfaces like on a Mac.

Alternatively, you could buy an audio interface with enough (analog) inputs to connect all the channels you need from your instruments using jack cables.

Hey RobrechtV,

Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it. I assume from your reply that this is possible so I'm happy to give details. I probably should have included that I am using an audio interface. I'll do my best to explain the set-up and steps taken in Ableton as best as I can.

SET-UP:

1. TB-03 daisy chained to another TB-03 and fed into the MC707 via Midi.
2. Minilogue XD connected to the MC707 via Midi.
3. MC707 output connected to a Behringer U-PHORIA UMC202HD (MC707 also connected to PC via USB Midi)
4. UMC202 connected to monitors via stereo jack and also to the PC through Midi USB cable

AIM:

Is to be able to play and record a song live into Ableton and utilise FX (compression, eq, reverb etc) on the incoming signal and hear the finished product on the output signal.

WHAT I HAVE TRIED SO FAR:

SET-UP 1 image
Set up each audio signal from the MC707 as an audio in on separate channels.

I have tried as many different variations of set-up as I can, skipping the mix channel and going straight to the main, different audio channels on the main out, monitor off - the list goes on.

SET-UP 2 image
Set-up incoming audio as an external instrument again with as many different configs as I could imagine.

I have watched countless video's, been through the manual, had helps from other friends running Ableton, but just can't figure it out.

All variations of set-up have the same issue = i get two sound signals, one is the original and one will be the signal after FX have been applied.

I have also tried turning off direct monitoring on the UMC202 / 707 and I get silence.

I tried to upload some images to help but the forum won't allow me too.

Thanks again for taking the time to help!

Cheers,

Jamie

Also I have ASIO4ALL but the MC707 has its own driver that is capable of running this setup. That is the driver I am using.
