I want to use an external effect as a send in Live and be able to control its parameters via MIDI CC in a convenient way. However, CC control is not possible on an audio track to my knowledge and I think especially sends are even more locked when it comes to sending MIDI.
What are the recommended ways of achieving this? Is it to use a separate MIDI track in the project that only handles the CC of the send or are there other ways? Can it be done through Max for Live somehow?

Can’t send audio through it though, right? I’m not even sure if send tracks accepts External Instrument as a device?

Damn, you're right, I couldn't figure it out.
I'm afraid you have to use a MIDI track with CC control. If you want to have the send amount on the same track, you could map it to a knob via M4L.

Ah, so you mean having the actual MIDI CC control knobs on a MIDI track and then mapping those to some kind of M4L device on the send track, like a more generic mapping between them?
