ctrl+space broken in multi-clip midi editing

Post by spac7 » Sun Aug 31, 2025 3:03 am

i’ve been trying to switch over to ableton because i love so much about it, but this one thing in midi editing is literally the ONLY reason i can’t make the switch.

the issue:
- in a single clip, ctrl+space plays from the insert marker. works fine.
- in multi-clip, ctrl+space ignores the marker and just jumps back to the very start of the clip.

so instead of just playing the bit i’m actually working on and fixing notes right there, i keep getting thrown back to the beginning. it makes editing feel way slower than it should be.

what i tried:
-shift+space: only keeps going from where playback stopped, doesn’t restart at the marker.
-scrub tool: honestly not usable for this. my mouse is already busy moving notes around, and having to switch into scrub mode every time kills the workflow.
-focusing on one clip: yeah that works, but then what’s the point of multi-clip editing.

steps to reproduce:
-select multiple midi clips so they show in the editor
-drop the insert marker at bar 2 or 3
-hit ctrl+space
=playback ignores the marker and jumps to the clip start

feels like a small detail but it really drags the process down. it’s quite literally the only reason i can’t use ableton. i hope there’s a solution i haven’t tried or i’m missing, and if not, I really really really sincerely hope this gets fixed, with much love❤️

There is only one playback marker for the whole Set, it is not per-track (much less per-Clip) so it makes no logical sense with multiple Clips selected.
