Recording red automations using an external sequencer

Post by Henrry_ES » Thu Sep 11, 2025 6:34 pm

Hi there.

I recently decided to change my live setup by replacing the Octatrack with Ableton Live to sequence a modular synth.
I also successfully replaced a eurorack analogue mixing console with a MIDI controller and the ES-9 module.

Still I have a hard time understanding how I could record MIDI CC automation into red automations instead of blue ones if that makes sense.

In my previous work flow I used to send a lot of MIDI CC sequences with the Octatrack to control all parameters of digital modules.

In order to mirror something that looked like the Octatrack and manual controls over two eurorack envelopes, I configured a MIDI controller that can send the same MIDI CC to the modular than the ones sent by the Octatrack.

But when I record a sequence from the OT to Ableton, all of my CCs are recorded to blue, while the CC automation from the controller are in red. So, for now, I spend a hell of a time copying and pasting those blue automations to red ones... Moreover the blue automations I record from the OT don't show up in automation lanes...

What am I missing?
Thanks for any suggestion.
Cheers.
