The One UI Change That Could Revolutionize Your Workflow

Post by evadzx » Fri Oct 31, 2025 11:16 am

Hi Ableton Team,

As a power user for nearly a decade, I'd like to suggest a feature to improve workflow clarity in Live 🙏

Currently, long plugin chains get visually overwhelming in the single left-to-right row. My proposal is to allow for dedicated areas in the device view, for example:

Pre-Process (Left): A fixed space for our standard utility and prep devices. ✅

Creative (Middle): The main, flexible area for sound design. ✅

Post-Process (Right): A fixed space for our end-of-chain processing. ✅

Many of us use a consistent pre and post-processing methodology with curated tools. 💜
Having dedicated, fixed areas for these chains would bring ENORMOUS UI comfort, reduce clutter, and make complex sessions far more readable. It would allow us to focus on the creative core of the chain without endless scrolling or having to visually hunt for a specific device in a cluttered row.

If you think this feature could improve your experience in Live, please comment your support. Let's get this seen! After all, the happier we are in the studio, the better the music we create—and the more good vibes we can share with the world.
Thanks for your amazing work. 🔥

Those are clearly things Racks were created for (like the fact Racks can be folded more than one way, and can hide/show UI elements, can be nested. etc.), no need for any UI change.

Same for Device View Selector, another existing UI element that already addresses those issues.

And, of course, yet another issue that can be solved with Max For Live.

Oh wait, Groups too, you can group Groups since Live 11 (I think), and add how many layers of "process" you want, a Track is pre, 1st nested group is middle, "outer" group is post, and so on.
