MP3 usage in Live 5 - audio glitches!!

i've got audio clicks every couple of bars. even when the MP3 tracks are muted you can still hear the clicks. the only way to stop the clicks is to stop the MP3 clips. wav files are fine. its not on every MP3 file and the files have no clicks or glitches in the originals

to top that off the reason i want to use MP3 is to stop me having to convert everything and save hard drive space. only the other day i noticed the 'decoding cache' all 1.77gb worth hidden on my hard drive. to make things worse if you delete the any of files out of the set, it doesnt get deleted from the decoding cache - you have to do it manually. so the wav version and the MP3 version added together means i'm using more hard drive space than ever.

i'm using a presonus firepod set to 6ms latency. this has never give me a problem before. anybody getting the same problems?
