Syncing Live on a PC Laptop via midi to Powerbook sequencer

Post by vantage » Thu Aug 18, 2005 10:57 pm

Hi Folks

Thinking of taking the plunge into Abletonville, I have my beloved Ti Book 667 1 gb ram which I'm going to sequence on - probably using Cubase SE as I have also acquired a cursed PC (Sony VGN-295XP 1.86 Pentium M 1gb Ram 100gb HD) for work, however I am going to put a second stripped install of Win XP on it and run hopefully Live 5 and a VST shell to use some of the PC horsepower. Both machines will have RME Cardbus and Multifaces in them...

BUT

Can live be synced externally - i.e. to midi, I know it works with Rewire but has anyone synced it as a midi device externally to a sequencer?

Cheers for any thoughts

Aj

yes. It works quite well for many of us, but some have had problems, mostly when syncing for extended periods of time without stopping playback.

the midi clock sync can be a bit dodgy, but generally works. not sure if MTC will give you a better sync, as i've never tried it out.
