Gimme back my VST's in Rewire slave!
Gimme back my VST's in Rewire slave!
I'd really like to be able to rewire my Ableton Tunes into ProTools so I can do my composition on Ableton while using my DAW for more heavy lifting mixing.
The problem is, when Ableton goes into rewire mode, its ability to use VST's seems to vanish, which renders much of Abelton useless.
There doesnt seem to be any real reason for it.
Can this be remedied? I realise VST DLL linking issues cause problem when rewireing into Cubase and its ilk, but ProTools is a RTAS beast, and there are not any conflicts there.
This would MASSIVELY make my life and workflow easier, and its probably a verry simple fix.

while i initially thought this is pure BS it maybe not. i´ve no idea though.shayne wrote:...There doesnt seem to be any real reason for it. ... and its probably a verry simple fix. ...
on macs, where i come from, i didn´t see initially why it shouldn´t be possible even between rewired native apps which support one format only (AU/vst) why it shouldn´t be possible to use the other one (exclusively in live). meaning using logic (AU only) would allow to use vst´s in a rewired live while using cubase/nuendo as a master would allow to use AU´s in live. that would indeed upvalue live by multipliers if it would also be possible to get the midithing straight. at least a tiger mac OS (10.4.x) should be more or less ready to include this functionality. but then if this needs apples support in any way on the OS level, you can never know if they (apple) would support this idea, as they´re doing anything to make "their standard" THE common mac-standard. also it would probably force developers to rewrite their apps so that the AU/VST-versions are completely independent. they probably mustn´t share the same engines, preferences and other stuff like included sample anymore as it is common right now. although it´s interesting how they already can coexist in live without bigger problems. but then live as only one application probably is capable of taking care about this.
however, even for protools users (on PC´s), it´s probably rather not an easy task for similar reasons than an "easy fix" - dunno though. i´m not a programmer.
the idea is cool though but better forget about it....

I think the Abes said a while ago that to give VST and VSTi functionality as a ReWire slave would require a quite serious rewrite of the audio engine. But they _do_ know its desirable...

Surely they are routing to rewire after the audio processing? I mean you can still use the internal plugins.Pitch Black wrote:I think the Abes said a while ago that to give VST and VSTi functionality as a ReWire slave would require a quite serious rewrite of the audio engine. Come on ableton. Kick your coders. If its hard, its a bad design. If its a a bad design, fix the bad design, and get a heck of a lot of customer kudos.
There has GOT to be a way to get tracks out to a tracker!

I want my vst's
I just want to add another voice to the general plea: please give us our vst's in slave mode!
