cpu spikes on athon64 notebook

under the hood:
Athlon64 3200+
512mb RAM
80gb 4200RPM HD
ATI Radeon Xpress 128mb dedicated memory

I ran the Live5 performance test and got some pretty crazy results, CPU constantly spiking from 35~57%. It just seems outrageous considering the CPU I'm using (I have a desktop Athlon 2600+ (32-bit) and it ran the Live4 test at 29%). I did nearly all the tweaks on MusicXP.net and disabled a few services c/o BlackViper.com and am wondering what could be causing my CPU spikes or what I could do to further optimize my laptop.

Try deleting your preferences file in your version 5 folder of the application data section. Also make sure your laptop power settings are set to Always On. See if that helps.
